Below is the second edition of Using Copyrighted Works in Teaching: A Guide for Syracuse University Faculty. This Guide provides recommendations that will help Syracuse University faculty members, teaching assistants and online course administrators legally use a variety of protected works for curricular purposes.
The Guide was developed by Dr. K. Matthew Dames, interim Dean of Libraries and University Librarian and Director of the Copyright and Information Policy Office. The first edition was issued in September 2012. Changes reflected in this revision include an updated summary chart, expanded content on multimedia use, and updated contact information.
This Guide will remain publicly available in electronic form for the Syracuse University community and others in higher education. Print copies of the second edition of the Guide were mailed to all faculty and related instructional staff in January 2014. Additional copies are available at service points within Bird Library and Carnegie Library.
The Guide will be updated from time to time to reflect new modes of instruction and changes in the law. Any changes in the online version of the Guide will supersede previous print versions in circulation. A list of these changes are available at Pending Updates, and will be explained in various Blog postings.
